UofL’s Arbor Day Celebration was a HUGE success! Thanks to everyone who came out today to help restore Louisville urban forest! To help stem the tide of 150 trees lost every day in Louisville, we gave away 200 native saplings (Yellowwood, Eastern Redbud, and Roughleaf Dogwood) complements of the Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District. Students helped us plant two large native shade trees (including Kentucky’s state tree, the Tulip Poplar) along 3rd Street by Greek Row and University Pointe. Campus Housing offered tree-themed games and prizes, UofL Dining gave away hundreds of truly delicious local apples, and the Office of Health Promotion came out to make bike-blender smoothies for everyone with 100% of the ingredients coming from trees, including almond milk and native pawpaw and serviceberries. Yum!
